I am a photographer because I feel it’s what I have been called and equipped to do. People fascinate me! Observing others, trying to understand who they are and what makes them tick is not something I choose to do, it's just how I am. I've found that I'm able to read situations and the interactions between others because I pay attention to the details. I am perceptive and empathetic, which helps me to understand what people are experiencing. I am also honest and my photographs are as well. I want to see what is truly happening below the surface, bring it to light in my photographs, and reveal it to others.
I am also a photographer because I love it. I studied Psychology in college and tried a variety of jobs before realizing that photography was my calling. The realization came when a friend asked me what I would do if money didn’t matter. My immediate response was “travel and take pictures.” From there I found that it is photographing people that moves me. I love the idea of expressing the essence of another human being in a photograph. Capturing an expression, habit, or a telling moment of a person that will be treasured by those who love them. Revealing the core of the relationship between two people. I live for the moment when someone looks at one of my photographs and cries because they feel, not just see, the emotion in it.
I shoot documentary-style; which means that I capture each event in a way that reflects the reality and emotions my clients experience in an artistic way. I want to help my clients share their story with others, and preserve their memories, creating a photographic record of the life of their new family.
